Coach Resource: Practice Plan

Planning practices are one of the most important tasks of a coach. The Practice Plan is the responsibility of the Head Coach, but an assist or positional coach may have input into or full control of individual time and should be prepared for it.
There are difference ways to organize a practice. Regardless of the way it is delivered the end result should be effective and efficient.
There are many different examples of a practice plan. One example from the CDMFA is show here.

A few key points that should be consider when making a practice plan is:

  • Age and Skill Level
  • Safety risks
  • What are we training to develop and trying to accomplish in the practice?
  • Practice Structure
  • Logistics: Equipment Availability, Field Space, Number of Coaches.
